After reading a blog post from one of my favorite bloggers about the contrast between Hustle Culture and Slowing Down, it motivated me to write about this concept myself. Nowadays, we are consumed by the idea that we must continuously pursue the next big thing or outdo others on social media. As a result, we often neglect the things that hold genuine significance in our lives.
Is Living a Hustle Culture Worth It Really?
Do I believe it’s worth chasing popularity online and indulging in materialistic possessions like the latest iPhones and high-tech TVs? Absolutely not. My husband and I, unfortunately, fell into that trap ourselves and are currently hustling to break free from the financial bind we put ourselves in. Unexpected health bills have made it even more difficult, as insurance coverage fell short of our expectations.

Living a Hustle Culture For a Period of Time is Worth It
Currently, we are working tirelessly to improve our financial situation. Although it may be a challenging journey, we are determined to overcome these obstacles and learn from our experiences to prevent similar situations in the future.
If you have a specific goal in mind and everyone involved is in agreement, living in a hustle culture for a while can be worthwhile. However, I don’t believe it’s beneficial for maintaining long-term relationships if it continues for an extended period of time.
Find a Balance between Hustle Culture and Slowing Down One
As Ashley pointed out in her blog post, as a whole many of us had wake-up calls when we got hit with COVID. People realized how important human relationships are to them. We were forced to spend time with loved ones under one roof and slow down.
For some, it did add additional stress factors because of losing income and life changes. In our home, we have had to learn how to live on less income. It got seriously rough! We are still paying for the impact of COVID on our lives.
Similar to many individuals, we found some positive aspects amidst the COVID pandemic. Our relationships were strengthened, and we came to realize the irreplaceable value of the people in our lives. Consequently, many have begun taking proactive measures to express their love and affection for their loved ones before it becomes too late.
It is crucial to contemplate the type of life we genuinely desire. Do we wish to dedicate our entire existence to a constant state of rush? Alternatively, would we prefer to create enduring connections and cherishable moments with our significant others and children?
I’ve stressed this numerous times... we have to make every moment count in our lives. We only get ONE life. Every day is a new chance to make it matter.
I recognize the value of striving for a better life for oneself and loved ones, but I do not advocate for a lifestyle of perpetual hustle, especially for those who are married and/or have children. Such a lifestyle can lead to a loss of important aspects of life. Personally, I have experienced the effects of having a parent who prioritized material possessions over quality time and attention, resulting in a strained relationship.
Over the years, I have made a conscious effort to prioritize my children and give them my undivided love and attention. Additionally, I ensure that my husband and I have regular date nights, although our relationship is not without flaws. Nevertheless, prioritizing them has been invaluable to me.
I understand that some individuals may have a different viewpoint than me regarding this matter. They may believe that living in a hustle culture is beneficial as it can provide a more comfortable life for their loved ones and/or offer exciting experiences. It may also give them a heightened sense of achievement. I can relate to this sentiment, as I too have experienced the feeling of accomplishment that comes with constantly hustling.
Losing precious time with my oldest daughter was a harsh reality check for me. I came to the realization that prioritizing a comfortable lifestyle came at a great cost to our relationship. Given the chance, I would make different decisions in the past to avoid this regret.

Oh Crystal, I absolutely love this post and am honored to be mentioned here! You hit every nail on the head for me. I think there are certain times that call for more of a hustle phase, but just as you mentioned, I don’t feel it’s sustainable long term. I love how you always put your own personal touch on each post, and your experiences helps me along with every other person reading to learn and grow right along with you. I can wholeheartedly relate about sacrificing time and really zoning in on loved ones and giving them our attention and making sure they know how much we care. I believe that’s the most important thing we can do in this life, and while I don’t have any kiddos yet, I think it must be tenfold when it comes to your children. I have no doubt what an amazing job you do with your sweet family!
Hope you’re having a great start to your week my friend! You made mine with this post!
Make Life Marvelous
You’re such an inspiration. I hope and pray you reach all of your goals before you do have kids so you can savor every moment you have with them as they grow up. The days are long, but the years are extremely short. If I had to do it all over again, I would have sought a simpler lifestyle. I also would have ensured I had tons of different forms of passive income set up so I don’t have to work nearly as much as I do now.
I definitely would not have sold my first blog!!! I kick myself every day for that one.
But life has a way of giving us routes for a reason, and hopefully, my mistakes are helping someone else avoid falling into the same pitfall!
As always it’s great to see you!
I definitely believe in selective hustle! The goal is not to hustle forever and in all parts of your life but to get ahead sometimes you need to work a bit harder for a period of time!
That’s where I’m at in life right now. I’m in hustle mode, but I’m praying I get out of it in time to have the ability to make even more precious memories with my kids before they grow up completely on me.

My husband and I are now grandparents so I have contemplated this topic for years. I absolutely agree that providing a great life for our children was/is very important. However, I totally feel that the hustle culture is one of the biggest issues with the decline of family values. I am sorry if this upsets anyone, but I definitely feel that time spent with family is of utmost importance. I feel it is very important to find a way to provide for your family yet not feel the need to be so materialistic that you don’t take time to appreciate the world around you. I am guilty, very guilty, of trying to give our children everything but I have also always focused on family time being a priority.
The older I get the more I regret my old spending habits. However, I have learned my lesson and am working diligently to fix the issue and not make the same mistake again!! I want more time with my family versus working and losing precious time with them. But as they say, hide sight is always 20/20.

Life is very complicated but noticing when you are dropping balls or missing out (on time with family) is all you need to re-adjust when you can. #Dreateam
That is a very strong point. As long as you’re willing to look at your decisions objectively it does make a positive difference.
Opps #Dreamteam
I think having a good work/life balance is important#dreamteam
It is an extremely important part of life, but finding it is the true challenge (at least for me personally.)
Having a good balance is so important. Since the covid lockdown/s I think we’ve been better at slowing things down and really appreciating what’s around us. – Fab post. Thank you for joining us for the #DreamTeam 🙂
I tend to agree that we have done a better job as a society on this point since COVID. But I’ve also seen plenty of people who have gotten even more ramped up on it.
I haven’t heard this term before but can definitely agree with the sentiment! It is so important to work out what is important in our own lives. Thanks for linking up with #DreamTeam
I’m glad you agree. It’s hard to find that happy balance.

I think I needed to see this. I am constantly working. 6 days a week/50-60 hours a week. I have 3 kids (2 toddlers). I am completely overwhelmed but also still broke! The cost of groceries is killing me so I made a plan last week to start DoorDashing for extra money. However, this weekend I thought to myself how much time I already have away from my family and now I’m going to be away even more! No!! I need to cut costs somewhere else. I should probably start couponing again first.
I’m glad that you got this chance to see things in a different way. I hope that you find ways to cut the costs so that you can have more time with your family.
I love this post. It’s such a great reminder to put things into perspective and think… is this really worth it? Personally, I love to hustle on things that mean a lot to me, and to my family. It’s all about the balance – which is easier said than done! Thank you for sharing with the #DreamTeam 🙂
You are so right! It is easier said than done for sure. Like you, it’s so easy to hustle on things that matter to me. I’m noticing my kids are the same way.
