5 Ways to Spend More Quality Time with Your Family During Covid-19

Sharing is caring!

Struggling to function normally during these times is a common and completely normal thing for everyone. We’re all going through this together. The most important thing is that you make sure you are there for your family now that they really need you the most.

1. Stick to the regular routine

We are living through some very stressful times and things are beyond our control. However, accepting this situation is a crucial step towards learning how to respond to that stress. It’s okay not to feel normal. You need to acknowledge your feelings so that you can be fully functioning and present for your kids.

Even though it’s hard, sticking to a routine can be very helpful, especially for children. Following a certain routine or structure will help your children develop a healthy tolerance for stress. You need to create a safe and secure environment in which they can learn, and adapt to this change without feeling overwhelmed by what is going on. For instance, spend time with them by eating breakfast together every day.

2. Sleep matters

Don’t neglect sleep. It is very important that the whole family gets enough quality sleep. Create a more relaxing and soothing atmosphere for your kids when they go to bed. Spend some time with them before they go to sleep. You can read them bedtime stories or just spend time with them listening to their stories.

3. Communication is the key

It is completely alright to admit that we don’t have all the answers right now. However, it is important to maintain healthy communication in your family. Sit your whole family at the table and talk about the current situation. Your kids will probably have many questions and it’s important that you are honest. Help them understand the current situation, but also reassure them that they have nothing to worry about as long as they are responsible and wash their hands regularly.

On the other hand, as much as it is important to keep your kids informed it is also crucial that you redirect some of the family conversations away from the pandemic. You need to stay connected to your family and spread positive energy to help your kids get through these times.

4. Make dinner together

One of the best ways to divert your kids’ attention from the ongoing pandemic is to organize a fun cooking night. Making dinner together will help your family bond and get closer. You can get your kids to help and they’ll learn some tricks about cooking. Be careful about getting your supplies though. If you are organizing a late-night barbecue or making your favorite Chinese food with some chicken, it’s best that you opt for reliable meat delivery. That way you will get fresh meat delivered at your house and you won’t have to go to the store and expose yourself to other people during the pandemic.

5. Keep moving

It’s important that the whole family keeps moving even when you are not allowed to leave the house. Make it a goal to stay physically active even during these times. There are many fun ways for the whole family to exercise and stay healthy.

Now that we are cut off from the rest of the world, sitting in our homes alone, your kids will seek out for that connection and creativity they are missing out on. Encourage your kids to stay active and play. If you live in the house and have a backyard, try to spend as much time as possible with your family outside. You can play volleyball, football, hide and seek, or any game your kids like. This will help them stay active as well as help them relieve stress and anxiety that’s been piling up.
