One of the things that have allowed Del and I to maintain our marriage bond is the fact that we have managed to ensure we have date nights at least twice a week. Granted they may not be elaborate or even long, but these are little steps to a happier marriage that we do. Our date nights give us the opportunity to reconnect on an emotional level. If you’re like me at this given point in time, funds are tight, schedules are hectic, and there are health factors to consider when it comes to making date night ideas. That’s why in my case, I have to use these date night tips to ensure it happens.
5 Little Steps to a Happier Marriage with These Date Night Tips
Make sure at least one date night a month is away from our daily life routines.
This will ensure you have time to unwind together without being tempted to do other things on your to-do lists.
Make sure you both want the same THEME to happen.
This is important because if you’re both not in the mood for a night on the town then the night will suffer as a result. Pick things to do that will make you both happy. If you can both be uncomfortable trying something new together that has a way of helping you build a stronger bond too.
Take turns being in charge of who date night activities.
Come up with something you can pass back and forth. It can be as simple as a stuffed animal, a keychain, or something tangible that can be given to each other to know who’s in charge of date night creation.
Change your expectations.
Don’t expect anything specular to happen on date nights. You need time for you and him to be together without the everyday stresses of life interfering.
It’s also not a time to make your spouse feel like they have to live up to any hidden expectations. They have the right to savor their time with you without fear of letting you down.
Start a date night jar!
Make sure all spare change and $1.00 bills you can go into it. You’d be amazed how quickly it adds up.
Keep track of deals and specials!
Places like Applebee’s and Chili’s have special meal deals. You can get two dinners for $20/$25. These meal deals provide you the chance to get something fancy to eat without breaking the bank.
If you’re an AT&T customer, they have their AT&T Thanks program which gives you the chance to buy one movie ticket and get one free on Tuesdays. They also offer up other specials as well.
Tips for Preparing for Date Night
Have the sitter come earlier.
If your kids are anything like mine, they don’t seem to understand the concept of you needing time alone to get ready. If the sitter comes early that gives you time to prepare without them needing your attention too.
Take a deep breath
Taking a deep breath can really help you to relax and be ready for the next step. It can help you transition from being the mom and/or employee to be a wife.
Sweet sexy decant chocolate truffles or rich Dove chocolates can help you get into the sexier mode for your husband.
Take a long shower.
Take the time to soak up the heat from a steamy shower. Or take a bath with a bath bomb!
Play your songs!
Sometimes playing your song can help you remember why date nights are so important for your marriage and YOURSELF! Music has a way of carrying us to another time and place. Let your songs remind you why you love your spouse.
