I decided I needed to deviate from my 24 books in 2024 list. So, I went through my Amazon set of e-books and selected a book by its cover. I landed on The Truth About Unspeakable Things and was in for a compelling book that reminded me of many things in my life.

My Review of The Truth About Unspeakable Things

As a person who has survived various forms of sexual abuse in my life, this book was a bit hard for me to swallow. The main character is sexually assaulted when she breaks up with her boyfriend.

Throughout this book, you begin to realize just how big of a problem sexual crimes are in our society. Did you know 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime? That’s got to change!

Sadly, all of my sexual abusers got away with their crimes against me for one reason or another. I learned very quickly that the judicial system is not in favor of the women who endure these crimes. Yet, the women who have gone through this experience will testify it completely and utterly changes your life in negative ways for LIFE.

Emma decides to take action about what was done to her. She takes extreme measures to do so. In her journey to get justice, she uncovers many unexpected and harsh truths.

Meanwhile, a strong love story plays out throughout the book, too. Anyone who has to deal with a sexually abused woman can tell you we are not an easy bunch to date, let alone be married to. It takes a strong, patient man to be with us.

The Truth About Unspeakable Things is a worthwhile book. I devoured it in a couple of days. Of course, I could relate to her struggles and was eager to see justice served. The outcome was not what I was expecting to happen at all.

I wish more women would speak out on the sexual crimes against them in a timely manner. If more women did this, the outcomes might be different. Of course, men lead our world in many ways, and men will never understand how they harm us! It’s hard to get justice when those in charge are not “seeing the harm” in what was done. So many men I’ve spoken to in my life feel we should get over what we went through and move on.

Here’s the thing: you never view sex the way it was intended when you’re used for sex. There are periods in my life where I have been in a healthy state concerning sex, but it has been short-lived. But I am a huge advocate for people waiting till marriage to have sex now! Yet, that happening is rare and practically unheard of in our society now a days.

I hope that someday this will no longer be an issue. I feel our world would be better off in more ways than one.

The Truth About Unspeakable Things is a book that speaks about this true issue in a fictional story that could have been real.
