STEM subjects consist of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths. Learning these subjects as a child builds a skill-set that is in high demand by employers. This means more exciting career opportunities for your child’s future. There are also many important life skills to be learned through STEM subjects, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and independence.
To highlight the importance of learning STEM subjects, Parsons Green Prep School have put together the following information for parents…
Most schools integrate STEM subjects into their curriculum. This helps young people to develop an interest in these key areas as early as possible. It is important for children to understand the connections between each of the STEM subjects, as well as their importance in the real world. For example, STEM continues to play an increasingly important role in developing new technology, crime scene investigation and space exploration.
Parents should encourage their children to explore STEM subjects at home. There are many fun and simple STEM learning opportunities in everyday life, but many go unnoticed. For example, you can learn science in the bathtub by observing what objects float or sink. You can explore engineering by setting up a marble run, and you can even use cooking to develop your child’s maths skills by calculating quantities and measurements.
There are many fun and interactive activities you can do at home to explore STEM subjects and the chances are you probably do already without even realizing it!
If you would like more information about STEM subjects and how they can benefit your child, there are plenty of resources available online. You could also speak to your child’s school, who will be able to give you an overview of the curriculum and offer advice on how to support your child’s learning.
