Being a parent is tough, it’s probably the only thing that all parents will unanimously agree on. If you’re a parent and you’re finding it easy, then you are a unicorn. If you care about your children, then trying to keep them safe and healthy may seem like an impossible task and one that your children really aren’t on board with most of the time! But as parents, we aren’t superhuman, and there are times where we may need some help. So asking for that help is essential.

Illness
Sometimes (although it seems like often) our children become poorly in one way or another. Most of the time, these illnesses are temporary, and we’re back on track quickly again afterward, but this isn’t always the case, and sometimes these illnesses can go on for quite a while. This is when we may need help from friends and relatives to help with the day-to-day running, and childcare of your household. Unfortunately, there are times when a home healthcare agency may need to be called in as well. But for us to do a great job as parents, we may need to accept help from time to time. Of course, we are not immune from illness either, but we tend to just power through and get on with things. But it’s always recommended to slow down if necessary when you’re really ill.
Unexpected Changes
Sometimes our family dynamics change, children grow up, and routines aren’t always set in stone. Therefore collecting children from school, or running errands that we would typically complete quickly, aren’t as easy. There have been times where transport options fail, and we need to rely on other people for a short while to be able to get around. There is no harm in asking for help occasionally, and when things do unexpectedly change, it’s always recommended to do what you can to keep things on track. Just remember that you help others too, so do deserve the same back.
Overwhelm
Having feelings and becoming overwhelmed, it’s not a bad thing. Where only human at the end of the day. Also showing our children that we aren’t perfect is a good lesson for them. So if you feel overwhelmed, try not to hide it, and reach out for support if you need it. This is especially important as mental health issues can really ruin a person’s life. So making sure that you are taking care of yourself is, in fact, one of the most critical jobs. Yes, even above cleaning the toilet.
Ultimately we never feel good about asking for help because it can seem like a Phalia in our books. We also feel as though we should be able to do everything. But being a parent isn’t quite how we planned all the time, and we have to accept an offer of help where necessary. There were times when people would come together and help each other raise their children, and look after their homes. But unfortunately family dynamics aren’t quite the same in 2019, this is a shame, but finding the right people who can support you, is possible.
