I’ve always been a fan of inspirational movies. This becomes especially true when it comes to movies that cover how someone overcomes hardships in their life. One of my favorite movies is Dangerous Minds.
The reason that the movie is so special to me is that I grew up in an abusive home and dealt with many other hardships. Even since Ms. Ordell pulled me out of my fifth-grade class and all but whipped my behind, I wanted to become a teacher who taught juvenile delinquents by owning an equine therapy center. To this day, if I was given the opportunity to do this, I’d jump at the chance!
I love watching movies very similar to Dangerous Minds! I went on the hunt for movies like it and found a few inspirational movies to watch. Unfortunately, you have to rent several of them on Amazon in order to be able to watch them online.
Inspirational Movies to Watch on Netflix
While there is a long list of inspirational movies on Netflix, there are only truly four related to inspiring juvenile delinquents to do better. These were the ones that showcase how one teacher/person makes them want to be a better version of themselves.
As a woman who is passionate about transforming young kids’ lives, she puts everything into teaching a bunch of at-risk teenagers who have been deemed incapable of learning. She goes well above the call of duty to help this group of students to graduate.
This movie showcases that the kids who rebel the most typically are the ones who NEED us the most. In most cases, they are not a lost cause, but rather the true movers and shakers in our society.
Gridiron Gang stars the Rock as a football coach for juvenile delinquents. He decides to take a bunch of what society classifies as worthless teens and shows the world that they are “winners.”
I am particularly fond of this movie because the Rock taught the boys how to trust and love again. He took away the barriers of gang relations and helped them to see people in a different light.
An educator (Denzel Washington) becomes the principal of the worst high school in Los Angeles and fights to change it.
This movie I haven’t watched YET, but it’s on my next to watch list. I believe it will be as inspirational as the rest of them.
The Bad Kids
This is a documentary of how “The Bad Kids” are given one last chance in a specialized school for them to obtain their high school diploma. I believe in the society we live in today, there are more chances than this one for kids to succeed. However, this is a solid representation of what can happen when these types of kids are given the chance to be given tough love and guidance in their lives.
Inspirational Movies to Watch on Amazon
Most of these movies listed are movies that you have to pay to watch. The average rental fee to watch these movies is about $3.99.
The Ron Clark Story
This movie is included in your Prime membership.
Based on the real-life inspiration, Ron Clark, a passionate and innovative teacher who leaves his small hometown to teach in one of Harlem’s toughest schools. But to break through to his students, Clark must use unconventional methods, including his ground-breaking classroom rules, to drive them toward their greatest potential.
This movie had my kids entertained right along with me from beginning to end. This is another powerful showcase of how important a loving and creative teacher can make an impact on kids’ lives.
You can rent Dangerous Minds to watch on Amazon.
An ex-Marine English teacher (Michelle Pfeiffer) uses karate, drug talk and bribes to get through to her class of urban delinquents.
This movie will forever be etched in my brain. I believe that’s because it reminds me so much of Mrs. Ordell, the teacher who saved my scrawny behind! I highly recommend it for anyone to watch.
This movie is available to rent on Amazon.
Directed by Thomas Carter. With Samuel L. Jackson, Rick Gonzalez, Robert Ri’chard, Rob Brown. Controversy surrounds high school basketball coach Ken Carter after he benches his entire team for breaking their academic contract with him.
This movie I watched when it first came out. This movie reminds people that there are consequences for everyone regardless of who you are to a community. I believe more people need to be reminded of this life lesson!
Lean On Me
This one is available to rent on Amazon.
This is another one of those movies about how a principle makes a powerful difference within a rough school.
This movie will leave you with some tears and smiles all rolled into one big movie. I haven’t seen it in years, but I still can remember appreciating the overall theme of this movie.
While I’m sure there are movies similar to these available to watch, these are my top picks! These inspirational movies will certainly give you quality entertainment. Who knows, they may inspire you to take the time to take a juvenile delinquent under your wing for some love and guidance in their life.
