While there should be an endless supply, it sure feels as if we are running low on hope these days. FAMILY CAMP combines hope with humor and Him in an encouraging movie. It is a movie that combines serious topics with quite a bit of comedic relief throughout the movie.
I wish I could say that my kids stayed with me to watch this movie, but they didn’t last more than 10 minutes before they left me. They claimed this movie was too stupid for them, but a big chunk of me thinks that day they had other things they wanted to do rather than sit around watching a movie with their mom. (You know how preteens/teens can be.)
I did finish watching the movie without them. While I admit, I did feel like the movie wasn’t fully thought out, I can see where they were trying to add humor to keep things from becoming too heavy. I did appreciate that detail.
This movie showcases the value of having like-minded friends in our lives. It also is a potent reminder of how much we have become a world too busy chasing the next “big promotion” rather than valuing our families and friends.
When I was younger, I thought it was so important to chase after the next promotion. I lost a lot of time with my firstborn child that I would give anything to have back. I have been blessed to be a stay-at-home mom (who happened to run a successful professional blog for over half that time) for eight years. However, my husband’s health took a major turn and I was forced to return to the workforce because I stupidly thought selling my first blog was the right decision to make at the time. But I am still blessed to work from home with the company I work with now, and I still get to enjoy those little moments with them. Lunch breaks are filled with fun adventures with my family.
But the Family Camp movie is a clear example of how quickly we can lose touch with those we love. It is also a wonderful reminder that it doesn’t hurt to unplug from the world around us and focus on our relationship with God and each other. It also showcases how much having a church family can help a family to thrive.
So, while I agree that they kind of drowned out their true message behind the movie, the effort was there to grab the attention of the generation they were trying to reach. All one has to do is watch a few videos on YouTube or TikTok to understand why the movie producers tried this route.
