For some people, the term “cruise” brings to mind an expensive journey that couples on their anniversary might take to the Caribbean.

Granted, there are super high-end cruises that cost a pretty penny, and plenty of ships go-to romantic, warm-weather locations that celebrating couples might want to experience for their fifth, 10th or 25th anniversary.

But if you are looking for a great vacation option that will help you experience virtually any part of the world — and that is also perfect for any budget, size of group or reason — a cruise is also the perfect answer.

Here’s why cruises are ideal for any reason or season:

They Can be Amazingly Affordable

Regardless of whether you’re planning a trip for you and your sweetie or are in charge of organizing a huge family reunion, a cruise can be more affordable than vacations on land. Many cruises are all-inclusive, meaning you pay one price for your room, meals, and activities. On the flip side, vacations at resorts and theme parks can be notoriously spendy.

For example, if you’re trying to decide between going on a week-long cruise or visiting the Happiest Place on Earth for the same amount of time, rooms at Disneyland range between roughly $200 and $1,000 a night. Of course, this doesn’t include tickets to the parks, meals, souvenirs and other costs associated with this type of trip.

On the other hand, if you check out the Alaska cruise packages at Princess.com, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see that a seven-day, round trip cruise out of Seattle starts at less than $600 per person. Best of all, this particular cruise includes five ports of call and plenty of wildlife viewing and great scenery.

You Can Personalize the Trip to Your Liking

Another reason why cruises are a great vacation choice is that you can customize your trip to include what you want to experience and do. As such, you can plan as little or as much activity as you want during the cruise, and you can also decide how “connected” you wish to be to friends and family back home.

If you find the ports of call intriguing, then, by all means, take your time exploring these interesting locales. Likewise, if you’re in the middle of a great book and are comfortable on a lounge chair, skip the day outing. On the flip side, if you spend a ton of money for theme park tickets, you will likely feel compelled to spend long and tiring days at the parks.

Or, if you’re in a big city, you might feel like you have to get out and be a tourist. On a cruise ship, you can really make the trip your own.

There is Something for Everyone

Since most cruise liners have passengers of every age — from babies to senior citizens — the staff is great about making sure there are plenty of activities for everyone. This can really come in handy if you’re traveling with a large group, as there will be activities to keep the kiddos happy, including games, water sports and more, and amenities like golf lessons, spa days, dancing and much more for the adults.

Cruising is the Ideal Vacation Year Round

If you’ve always dreamed of going on a tropical cruise with your sweetie, you can definitely make that happen any time of year. But as you can see, cruises offer so much more than stops at sandy beaches for young couples. So whether you’re traveling with your honey, a group of friends or as part of a family reunion, you will find cruises are a surprisingly affordable, customizable and enjoyable way to travel.
