Breaking specific rules can cause the skies to open and rain down benefits – but it can also cause your worst nightmares. Author Lewis Upton once said, “I’m a free soul, not a soul who will be contained by rules that were made by people who want to control others.”
There comes a time when it becomes necessary to break a rule, break the control of others or a situation, and set yourself free to make your own rules.

Here are some perks of breaking the rules of society:
The “Work from 9 to 5” Rule.
When you break this rule, you can get ahead quickly by garnering more time for yourself and working more efficiently. Today, many people realize the perks that technology now affords by setting their hours and taking time for themselves.
I have worked for myself for several years online but then decided to go back to a 9-5:30 job for guaranteed income. While I love my current job, I miss the perks of working for myself. I hope to one day get back to that point, but if my current job continues to offer me the opportunity to grow with them at a reasonable rate, I will probably continue to grow with them.
The trick here is to choose a career path in life that makes you happy. IF you’re not satisfied doing the work that you do day in and day out, it can cause unnecessary stress and discomfort in your daily life.
In the world we live in today, there is a way to make income from any passion we may have in our lives. When you’re passionate about something, you are more likely to make your dreams a reality.
Always Meet Your Goals and Expectations.
You may change your mind along the way – it’s as simple as that. You can become newly enthused about a project or goal if you let the old ones go.
My boss encouraged me to create some goals, steadily staring me in the face. I couldn’t get into finishing either one of them because neither one of them was going to add value to my life for things that I’m planning to pursue. So, I let them go.
While in my mind, it makes me look like a quitter. But there are times in life that it’s better to be a quitter! We are all only given so many hours in a day. We need to take every moment and strive to achieve the excellence we want from our lives.
What Other People Think is Important.
Letting go of the fear of people judging you can be very freeing. Their opinions may have kept you down, and from reaching new heights in your life plan are replaced with a fresh zest for life and enthusiasm to take advantage of every opportunity.
This is a massive problem because I am a people pleaser. I strive to make others happy in my life and ensure that I meet and exceed any metrics given to me. While I want to continue making other people happy, I’m not willing to sacrifice my own anymore.
Mistakes Are a Bad Thing.
You can get tons of benefits from making mistakes. It’s never fun to admit you’re wrong, but when you learn lessons from those mistakes, the benefits are many, and you’ll likely never make that mistake again.
Your Parents Are Always Right.
When you realize that your parents lived in another day and time when rules meant something different than they do today, you can justify breaking the “parents are always right rule.” The primary perk you can get from breaking this rule is to free yourself to make your own decisions and plot your life path.
Although there are perks from breaking many of society’s antiquated rules, beware of breaking the rules set in place to help us in life.
You may work harder – spend long days and nights – in reaching the goals and dreams you have for yourself. But, setting your own goals and rules can help you work on your terms and not those set by others. You’ll do a much better job and finish projects much more efficiently.
