Scrapbooking is a great hobby to get into whether you want to put together some nice collections of family memories or make unique personalized gifts for your friends and family. Most people assume that scrapbooking is easy and it’s just a case of cutting things out and sticking them in, but there’s a bit more to it than that. If you want to create amazing scrapbooks, you need to develop your own style and learn a few different techniques. These are some of the best tips for people that want to start scrapbooking for the first time.

Scrapbooking can be a lot of fun, but for scrapbooking beginners it can be a bit daunting. Here are four tips for scrapbooking beginners.

Invest In Some Equipment

Getting the right equipment is essential if you want your scrapbooks to look good, so you will need to invest a little bit of money. One of the best things to get is a die cutting machine. They’re great for cutting out all sorts of different shapes from different materials. There is a long list of Cricut cartridges that you can use to cut out so many shapes like letters, flowers, animals, and pretty much anything else that you can think of. You could cut these shapes out by hand, of course, but the finish won’t be anywhere near as good and you’re quite limited when it comes to the more complex mistakes.

It’s also worth getting a glue gun so you can fix things down properly. You don’t want your scrapbook falling apart after a few months because you’ve used some cheap glue to stick everything down.

Getting some containers and small plastic drawers to organize things is a big help as well. When you start scrapbooking regularly, you’ll have lots of different paper and cuttings as well as small decorations to use. By keeping them all organized, you make life so much easier for yourself when you’re trying to come up with new designs.

These are the basic bits of equipment that you’ll need but there are so many different scrapbooking tools out there. Everybody has their own style and uses different things, so you don’t need to buy them all. A lot of scrapbooking stores will let you rent out equipment which is a good way to try before you buy because you don’t want to spend a load of money on equipment that you won’t use.

Always Use A Theme

Choosing a theme is very important when you’re making a scrapbook design. You can either choose one single theme for the entire scrapbook or you can use a different theme for each page, but they need to complement one another if you’re going to do that. If you’re doing a scrapbook of a wedding, for example, you could use the themes and colors from the wedding throughout the scrapbook. But if you were going to do a scrapbook of family days out, you could use a theme that fits the photos from each day out. It doesn’t matter what your theme is, but it’s important that it fits well with the photos and it’s consistent.

Always Buy Twice

When you take a trip out to buy your scrapbooking supplies, you should always get 2 of everything and there are a couple of reasons for this. First off, you might make mistakes and if you find the perfect paper design for a page and you just have one, you’re going to have to go back to the shop again if you get it wrong. Also, scrapbooking stores change their stock quite often and the manufacturers might take things off the market. It’s a real shame if you find some great paper styles that you love using and then the next time that you go to the shop, you can’t get them anymore. That’s why you should always stock up on the materials that you like so you can use them again in the future and you don’t have to worry too much about mistakes.

Take Photos With You

When you’re going to buy scrapbook materials, you should always take the photos that you’re going to use with you. It’s important that you’re matching the colors in the photos with the paper and decorations that you use in the scrapbook. If you’re trying to do that from memory when you’re in the shop, you’re going to struggle and you won’t match things up perfectly. But if you take the photos with you, you can hold them up against the different materials and make sure that you’re picking the perfect thing.

Scrapbooking is all about finding your own style and doing things in your own way, but you still need to follow these basic rules.
