I’m often amazed by how little bit of time my kids can handle being in total silence. I didn’t realize the importance of silence growing up, but my mom always made sure I we had it several times a week. As an introvert, it’s almost vital that I get silence several times a week to recharge my social energy. My kids have a hard time grasping that concept.
I have tried my best to install a love of silence in my kids’ lives for as long as I can remember. However, it appears it hasn’t worked at all. Of course, some of that may have to do with the fact that when they are in trouble I have forced them to be in total silence to “reflect on their negative actions.”
Silence is Needed
We need to spend some time in silence. We need to take the time to slow down and sit in the quiet. We all need to take time to reflect upon our experiences and dreams. The silence also allows your body to calm down in some cases. It helps us to get the added energy we need to keep moving on.
Silence Can Lead to Healing
Yet if your body doesn’t calm down and your mind wanders into areas of your life that you’d rather forget then maybe it’s time to tackle those inner demons head-on. Some of our biggest issues come from things unresolved from our pasts.
When you sit in the silence and really think about the issues at hand then you can see things in a different light. Often times your mind will help you to come up with solutions you may not have otherwise thought of using. Or you can grow to realize how strong you truly are in these circumstances.
Time To Ponder Can Lead to Wonder
This saying used to not make a lot of sense to me, but it was told to me often. Sometimes when we sit in silence, our minds become quite creative.
Who knows you may be the one to solve a great mystery. Or you may come up with a gadget that will make our lives easier, and make yourself rich in the process. It’s been known to happen more often than not!
Yet, so many often we don’t give our bodies and mind time to just sit and bask in the sun and smell the flowers. We live in a world where we are constantly told we have to be productive in every minute of every day. The reality is we don’t!
We may be surrounded by things that can entertain us all the time from great movies, entertaining TV shows, enlightening books, and so forth. However, the older generations had it right when they took the time to just sit on a porch and watch the sunrise and set each day. Silence is golden in so many ways.
Do you take time to sit in the silence?
