I read this book as part of the Kindle Unlimited program. I was looking for a book that was romantic, quick, and easy to read while I was at the hospital. The Good Daughter by Stella MacLean fit the bill.

About The Good Daughter

The Good Daughter Stella MacLean 1 The Good Daughter Stella MacLean 2

Paige Alexander is a good daughter: a choice made early in her life out of her love for her adoptive parents who doted on her.
When her adoptive mother dies she is shocked and surprised to learn she has a sister in trouble, a niece in need of a loving home, and her birth mother in need of care. But to help them she has to revisit her past with Tony Phillips, the love of her life. A love that went incredibly wrong.
Yet, desperate to find her birth family, Paige risks everything to be supportive and caring. But once involved with them, she discovers that Tony’s experience in law enforcement is the secret to saving her family.
Tony knows what finding her birth family means to Paige. But Tony’s ability to help her is hampered by his commitment to his son from another marriage.
Despite their past, the love they shared draws them into each other’s lives. But will it be enough to ignite the passion they once shared?

My Review of The Good Daughter Stella MacLean

This book had a good storyline. The main character pursues meeting her biological mother after her adoptive mother passes. She was told that her biological mother wasn’t alive, and this comes as a huge shock to her system. Once she finds her mother, she ends up gaining more family than she expected. Her life completely turned upside down.

Part of that upheaval includes having her ex be the one to help her get through it all. The romance gets rekindled between her and her ex, but it’s a rocky dramatic relationship at best.

While this book does have a good bit of repetition in it, it’s still a fun read. It’s ideal for reading while you’re waiting at a hospital, on the poolside, or just relaxing for a bit. It is not a long book, but I do feel that the author could have expanded on the relationship between the main character and her biological mother more. She could have gone into more detail about what it’s like to connect with family that you have barely gotten to know in your life. She did cover it, but not as much as I was hoping she would.

Maybe I feel that way because I was hoping to garnish more insight from another perspective after reconnecting with my daughter after YEARS of being without any connection with her when her stepmother adopted her. It was nice to read about another wonderful reunion though!
