After finishing a nonfiction book, I decided to start one of the 24 fiction books on my reading list for 2024 this week. I was in the mood for some humor and romance, so I chose to read “Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist”.

About Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist

“Funny and insightful fish-out-of-water tale.” – Publishers Weekly

“I absolutely couldn’t put it down!” – Riddle’s Reviews

“Bloody hilarious from the very beginning.” – Books Glorious Books

Two hot guys. One big lie. What’s a virgin sex columnist to do?

My name is Skylar Quinn. I just moved to New York with my best friend Bridget, and I have a confession. Well, more than one. Okay, quite a few really. Fine, here goes!

Confession #1: I’m a sex columnist. Hold on, that’s not really the confession. You see, I’m sort of a virgin…sex columnist.

Confession #2: I’m kind of in love with Bridget’s older brother, Oliver. No, I was. No, I am. Wait, was? Am? Crap.

Confession #3: I’ve been avoiding Oliver for four years. Or I was until today, because he just moved in. Yes, you read that correctly. He’s my new roommate. So that night we’ve both been pretending never happened, well, we might not be able to keep it a secret any longer.

And trust me, this is only the beginning.

From bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis, writing as Kay Marie, comes a new adult romantic comedy about a girl who’ll soon discover that some secrets can’t be kept forever, especially those of the heart. This is a sweet romance, perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Meg Cabot, and Christina Lauren! It includes the following tropes – second chance romance, best friend’s brother, roommate romance, friends to lovers, office shenanigans, and fish out of water.

My Review of Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist

Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist 2

I knew Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist was going to be funny and light. After the month I had, reading this book was an excellent way to finish the month! I got plenty of chuckles while reading it.

I was also reminded how much being with the right person can make all the difference. I have dated plenty of guys in my life, and none of them have held a candle to my husband in how they have made me feel. My husband and I may not be perfect, and we may have many issues, but when it gets down to the nitty gritty, we have a love that has surpassed the test of time and life obstacles. While the character in this story doesn’t have a negative background with her one true love, they have tons of history together.

I have always stressed to my kids the value of waiting to have sex till you’re with that one particular person that you can’t see yourself living without. Sadly, one is holding out so far, but I don’t know how long he’ll hold out.

I fully expected to read about a whole bunch of sexual adventures for the main character. But while that did not happen in this book, I personally feel way better adventures took place. I also feel the main character gained and showcased something even better!

Sadly, in our world today, sex seems to sell more than wholesome entertainment. In turn, I feel many relationships fail because they have misconceived notions about how their relationships are supposed to really play out. They think sex should happen after so many dates. Married couples think that their sex life is lacking if it’s not happening consistently or is full of spicy moves and magic.

If the book’s character had shared her true dating life with the world, it might have been snubbed initially. However, I believe the funny whit of the author would have been hard to ignore. I also believe plenty of people would relate to it because so many people are scared to admit they are a virgin to be negatively judged for it.

I find that to be highly ironic because when I was a teenager, I was the one everyone talked harshly about because I was so sexually active. Yet now it’s the spitting opposite. And here I am, promoting people to save themselves! I’m the one saying hey, it’s NOT worth it. The one-night flings will NEVER EVER hold the magic of making love to the one you decided to spend the rest of your life with. Yes, sex is a bit more challenging to keep it fun and exciting, but there are no empty or regretful feelings when you’re done.

Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist is a fun and entertaining book to read. I feel any person who believes in true love will appreciate the storyline.
