About The Hill Movie

Growing up impoverished in small-town Texas, young Rickey Hill shows an extraordinary ability to hit a baseball, despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease.  His concerned pastor father (DENNIS QUAID) discourages Rickey from playing baseball to protect him from injury, and to have him follow in his footsteps and become a preacher.  As a young man, Rickey (COLIN FORD) becomes a baseball phenomenon.  His desire to participate in a try-out for a legendary major league scout divides the family and threatens Rickey’s dream of playing professional baseball.  

Based on a true story, THE HILL is directed by Jeff Celentano and also stars JOELLE CARTER, country music singer and songwriter RANDY HOUSER, Golden Globe nominee BONNIE BEDELIA, and SCOTT GLENN.

My Review of The Hill Movie

The Hill movie is one of the top movies I have watched this year so far! I am an avid believer that God gives all of us talents to use for his glory. Throughout this whole movie, I was rooting for Rickey to be able to play baseball. I was hoping that his father would support his dream to pursue this more.

Yet at the same time, as a parent who has a child with some hold-backs of her own, I understand why his father was trying to protect him throughout the movie.

But here’s the thing that The Hill movie does a remarkable job of reminding us, it is not our job to stand in the way of God’s plans for our children’s lives. He doesn’t provide them with natural gifts and leave them unprotected. While plenty of people endure sicknesses, hardship, and more, I believe God uses his believers to make powerful statements.

Rickey Hill’s personal story is a testament to how powerful living by faith alone can be. He knew he was called to play baseball. He could feel it in his weak bones. He didn’t give up when it got hard. He pushed through it all.

I strongly feel you will find The Hill movie one of your favorites for this year. It’s inspirational, heart-warming, family-friendly, and entertaining.
