Redeeming Love is a movie that hits home for me. I am glad I got the opportunity to review the book when it came out. I’m thrilled to review the movie as well.
About Redeeming Love Movie
Based on the best-selling book by Francine Rivers, REDEEMING LOVE is skillful retelling of the biblical love story of Gomer and Hosea. Set against the romantic backdrop of the California Gold Rush, the film answers the question: Can God’s love save anyone?
Angel is a young woman who was sold into prostitution as a child. A decade later, her bitter life brings her to California’s gold country in 1850, a time when men sell their souls for a bag of gold and women sell their bodies for a place to sleep. Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal, and she survives by keeping her hatred alive. What she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.
Then she meets Michael Hosea. A local farmer and a man of abiding faith, who obeys God’s leading to marry Angel and love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies her every bitter expectation until, despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw.
But with her unexpected softening comes overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so, Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband’s pursuing love, terrified of the truth she can no longer deny. If there is any hope of final healing for her, it must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does . . . the One who will never let her go.

I read the book Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers many years ago, and it totally reminded me of my true love story with my husband, Del. Just watching the previews for this movie made me CRY. So, to say I wanted to be a part of the campaign to share about this movie release would be an understatement.
I was completely correct, this movie certainly made me cry my eyes out, but not from tears of sorrow. It was more a set of tears of rejoicing because I know how powerful God’s love COMBINED with true love can honestly be! As the Bible states, true love NEVER fails. I wholeheartedly believe in that! I believe in both because I’ve lived it and felt it all.
In case you’ve never been here before, I’ll give you a snippet of why Redeeming Love movie hits home so intensely for me…
I was sexually abused as a child, and it made me treat sex as a tool because I didn’t realize the TRUE reason why a person should have sex. I had MANY sexual partners in my life. I met my husband when I was 13 years old, and there was an INSTANT connection between us that I’ll never be able to explain. He told me that he loved me from day one.
I broke up with him many times throughout the years just like “Angel” did throughout the Redeeming Love Movie because I didn’t feel I deserved his love. Like her, “I didn’t know how to love.” It took 16 LONG hard years, including my husband going through two marriages, and me going through two marriages before I finally fully realized that I was wasting my life by NOT being with him. (A car accident that literally paralyzed me is what made me FULLY open my eyes.) (There is a LONG story behind our courtship, but I won’t bore you with the details here.) However, it’s quite similar to Angel and Michael’s story.
The Redeeming Love movie showcases the power of unconditional true love can prevail if we allow it to. God’s love is there for us all the time and he will guide us if we’re willing to listen.
I feel many relationships in our society today are falling apart before they have the chance to fully blossom because we are dealing with more broken homes, more conflict, and less God in our lives. It saddens me to see this in our world! I do hope that many people take the time to watch Redeeming Love movie because it may help people see what they are missing.
It is my hope that this movie may even help couples rekindle their love for each other. And maybe they’ll take advantage of A Path to Redeeming Love: A 40-Day Devotional.
