In a changing world, it’s important for all of us as individuals to pay more attention to how we are treating the environment. The home and place of work are two of the most obvious places where you can make a few small but effective changes to be kinder to the environment. You don’t necessarily have to be the big boss in order to help make the office run in a more eco-friendly manner.
First of all, you need to make sure that all of your equipment is turned off. Lots of us are guilty of leaving our desktops switched on overnight and simply turning off the monitor. While it may save some time in the morning when you’re switching back on, it will waste energy and therefore the company’s money. You should also remind your colleagues to turn the lights and printer off if they are the last one out at the end of the day.
Ways to be More Eco-Friendly
Actually, you might want to re-think your printing habits altogether. Always ask yourself “is it necessary to print this or can I just email it?” It might be wise to suggest to your office manager that the business seeks green print solutions from a local print management company, as this will help them become more economical with their printing, thus reducing waste and saving money.
Another option is to ask your superior (if you have one) if you can start up a “Cycle to Work” scheme to encourage the staff to use a more eco-friendly form of travel. If this isn’t possible, perhaps you could encourage your colleagues to carpool in. Small changes like these can go a long way to helping both you and your employer save money, whilst being better on the environment. What’s more, an environmentally friendly office could potentially make for a great marketing strategy.
Decorate With Nature
Plants have the ability to offset any chemicals released into the air by new office furniture and thus making the space cleaner. Plus, many people like having plants around them. It helps to reduce stress levels.
Use Natural Light
Offices that have more windows allow workers to use more natural light which can help reduce the amount of electric consumption needed to operate. You can also get solar-powered office equipment too. Plus, by providing additional sunlight it helps with employees’ moods and increases productivity. This is especially true for people who suffer from the S.A.D.D. type of depression.
These may seem like small steps, but they can have a positive impact on the environment. We need to start using more eco-friendly products. This will create a more healthy environment for everyone involved both now and in the future. By going more green on the things your company does, it will help make a better impression for your company.
