What people often don’t realize is that moving mistakes happen mainly because you have no experience in moving and you are not predicting errors along the way. Sometimes the mistakes will be minor but, in most cases, the mistakes that you will make will be costly not only of your time and energy but material things.

People simply don’t know what to do in those situations. It often happens because you are thinking about bigger things and just forget about the essentials. If you are moving anytime soon, here are some of the simplest and best tips to avoid any mistakes from occurring and ruining your fresh start.

How to Prevent Mistakes During Moving 1

Don’t Spend Too Much Time Packing

The first thing where a lot of people go wrong is that they start packing way before they need to. Keep in mind that boxes and wrapping papers will always be available and easy to afford. There is no need to start months in advance.

Never Pack Heavy Things In Large Boxes

A lot of people make this mistake, and it’s quite a rooky one. The number one rule of packing is never to pack heavy things in large boxes. Heavy things should be packed in a lot of small ones and all the light things should go in the large ones.

Take Measurements Of The New Space

There is no point in moving all the furniture from one space to another if it’s not going to fit or simply doesn’t fit through the front door.

Never Pack Corrosive, Flammable or Explosive Things

Make sure that when you are packing you are not putting dangerous things in those boxes because oftentimes the boxes will be dropped, rained on or exposed to a lot of heat during the move.

Mark Your Boxes

People often take labelling boxes light-heartedly. But that is not the way to go. Make sure that you are labelling all the boxes toughly. It will make your move smooth sailing.

Don’t Take Taxes Lightly

Another thing that a lot of people take lightly is their taxes. When you are moving there are some things that will be tax-deductible and some that are not. So, make sure that you are checking your local laws.

Not Hiring A Moving Company

A simple thing that people often dismiss is moving companies. Hiring professional moving services will make the whole transition less miserable.

Don’t Forget To Change Your Address

Mistakes happen, and that is ok. But why let all of your bills or even packages arrive at your old address? Make sure that you change your address a couple of days before you actually move so you don’t forget once all the chaos happens.

Don’t Pack Clutter That You Don’t Need

As your new place is the best place where you can come in with your life decluttered, make sure that you are paying attention to what you are packing. Once you get to packing make sure that you are taking the time and going through everything and discarding things that you no longer have a use for. Throw them away or donate them. Another thing that you have to keep in mind is that you pack your valuables into a box along with other items and label them valuables. Unfortunately, boxes get stolen if they are left outside. So, make sure that you are taking all of your luxury things as well as essential documents with you and putting them in a safe place in your new home and then unpack them once the hecticness is over.

Never Pack Last Minute

Another thing that people often do is pack at the last minute. In all the hustle and bustle you will forget to pack things or just pack unnecessary trash and bring it into your new home. Take enough time in advance to pack your things calmly.

It is no secret that moving is hectic no matter how professional you are. This is why you need to ensure that you are planning out everything when moving. Packing your whole life in one day is just not possible. So, with that in mind make sure that you are taking your move seriously and calmly. Make a checklist and follow it to ensure there are no mistakes during your big move.
