Creating Balanced, Delicious Meals For Your Family: A Quick Guide

Eating healthy food is important, but you should also enjoy the food that you’re eating. Below, we’ll talk about how you can put together balanced meals and make them appetizing even to picky eaters! 

Read Nutritional Labels

Start by learning how to read nutritional labels, as well as the sort of thing you should be looking for in your foods. For example, trans fats should be limited. When you know how to read these labels you’ll have a good idea of what you should include in your meals and what you should keep to a minimum.

It’s a good idea to use as many natural ingredients as possible in your cooking. For example, including a whole potato or sweet potato as your carb source is a better idea than using chips, even if they are oven cooked. There are all kinds of recipes you can look at that will help you to create better recipes, such as this tasty paleo breakfast sausage recipe that is easy to make. It can be tough cooking everything from scratch, but you can cook in bulk beforehand, freeze, and then have meals to last you a few days.

Ensure A Good Mix Of Protein, Fats, and Carbs 

Protein, fats, and carbs, are essential for certain bodily functions, Protein helps us to feel full and keeps our muscles strong, fat helps to give us energy and is especially important for women’s bodies, while carbs are another important energy source. Making sure you’re not eating too much of one ‘macronutrient’ as they are called, will ensure you’re eating more balanced meals. For example, toast for breakfast, pasta for lunch, oats for supper, and things like crisps and similar snacks in between will likely be too many carbs. No macronutrient should be avoided, and you definitely shouldn’t go to extremes. However, you should understand what sort of foods you should be eating more of and how to balance your energy intake effectively. 

Use Herbs And Spices

Herbs and spices can make just about any dish taste better. Avoid sugary sauces and sauces that are high in calories for a small amount. Experiment with herbs and spices you use as well as the methods of cooking you use and you should find your food is much tastier without the junk. 

Give Healthy Food Fun Names For Kids 

If you have picky eaters, a clever way to get kids to eat healthy food is to give them fun names. For example, calling broccoli ‘mini trees’ nearly always works. See if you can come up with fun names for your dishes, and don’t forget about the importance of presentation. Kids can be easily pleased this way and they should eat much healthier diets!
