Becoming a grandpa may come with a new title, but it doesn’t exactly come with an instruction manual. Grandpa Day by Perry Solomon is written for grandfathers who may wonder if they really know what they’re doing or have what it takes to make a meaningful difference in their grandchildren’s lives. Rather than making grandparenting feel like another role you have to somehow master, this book offers the encouraging reminder that you may already be far more prepared to be a great grandpa than you realize.

Grandpa Day is a guide for grandfathers who want to build strong, joyful, and lasting bonds with their grandchildren. Drawing from more than twenty years of one on one adventures with his six grandchildren, Perry Solomon shows how small, consistent moments of presence, curiosity, and love can shape a child’s confidence, character, and sense of belonging.
Through warm storytelling and practical guidance, Solomon demonstrates how every grandfather can become a trusted mentor and steady source of encouragement. Readers will learn how to create meaningful traditions, nurture individual interests, and support each grandchild’s natural talents, whether those lean toward art, science, reading, technology, sports, or hands on exploration. The book also offers down to earth advice on navigating family dynamics with respect, listening with intention, and fostering open communication across generations.
At the heart of Grandpa Day is a simple purpose. When grandfathers give their time, attention, and unconditional love, grandchildren grow into resilient and capable young people who feel secure and valued. In return, grandfathers experience personal growth, deepened emotional connections, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Blending personal memoir with practical wisdom, Grandpa Day celebrates the extraordinary impact of ordinary moments and invites every grandfather to embrace this role with patience, joy, and intention. It is both a guidebook and a legacy of love.

Perry Solomon is a proud grandfather whose greatest joy comes from the close, loving relationships he shares with his six grandchildren. From the moment each one was born, he embraced every opportunity to be part of their lives, creating meaningful connections across generations. As he writes this book, his youngest grandchild, Opal, is eight years old, and his eldest, Cassie, is twenty-one. Perry believes that nurturing strong bonds, creating joyful memories, and offering steady support are among the most important gifts a grandfather can give.
Perry and his wife, Marie, live in Santa Monica, California. He is the stepfather of two daughters, Candace and Sabrina. Together, their growing family continues to be his greatest inspiration and the heart of his legacy.
A successful serial entrepreneur, Perry has spent decades building and advising companies across retail, distribution, manufacturing, consumer electronics, business services, and home products. His work as a founder, CEO, and advisory board member has earned him a reputation for wisdom, resilience, and leadership. Over the course of his career, he has completed four successful exits, achievements that now allow him to devote even more time to the family relationships that matter most.
In recent years, Perry has focused his energy on strengthening intergenerational connections and encouraging other grandparents to do the same. Through Grandpa Day, he shares practical advice, heartfelt stories, and meaningful activities designed to help grandfathers, grandparents, and seniors nurture love, communication, and confidence in their grandchildren. His mission is to help families create lasting memories, build strong bonds, and pass forward a legacy of love and wisdom for generations to come.

My Review of Grandpa Day Book
What stood out to me most about Grandpa Day was how encouraging it was for grandpas who may question whether they are really prepared for this role. Perry Solomon does a good job of showing that being a good grandpa isn’t about having everything figured out. In many ways, the life experience a man already has gives him more to offer his grandchildren than he may realize.
I also enjoyed seeing how the role of grandparents has changed over the years. Grandparents today have so many different ways to be involved in their grandchildren’s lives, and I appreciated that Solomon included practical suggestions for connecting with grandkids in today’s world. With technology, busy schedules, distance, and the way families have changed, building those relationships may look different than it did generations ago, but that certainly doesn’t make the relationship any less important.
My biggest issue with the book was the repetition. There were several times when I felt like I had already read the same point, just presented in a slightly different way. I think the book could have been shorter and still delivered the same message just as effectively.
However, I can also see why some of that repetition may be helpful for the grandpa who picks up this book genuinely unsure of himself. The message that kept coming through was pretty simple: you probably already have more of what it takes to be a good grandpa than you think you do. Sometimes we need to hear something more than once before we actually believe it.
Overall, I think Grandpa Day would be an encouraging read for a new grandpa, a grandpa who wants a closer relationship with his grandchildren, or even someone preparing to enter this new season of life. It offers ideas for making those connections stronger while reminding grandpas that their presence, experience, and willingness to be involved can matter far more than having all the right answers.
