I was eager to review A Family Affair early on because it was one of those movies that I knew I would be able to relate to in some way. It did not disappoint me!
About A Family Affair Movie
When Zara (Joey King) quits her job as the personal assistant to Hollywood heartthrob Chris Cole (Zac Efron), she unwittingly sets the stage for a chance encounter between Chris and her famous writer mom, Brooke (Nicole Kidman). It’s only a matter of hours before Brooke and Chris realize they have an undeniable chemistry, which leads to laugh-out-loud consequences as Zara’s egocentric boss attempts to woo her incredulous mother. This multigenerational, coming-of-age romantic comedy follows each character as they face the tangled complications of love, sex, and identity. Directed by Richard Lagravenese (Beautiful Creatures, P.S. I Love You) from a screenplay by Carrie Solomon, A Family Affair also stars Kathy Bates and Liza Koshy.

My Review of A Family Affair Movie
A Family Affair movie started stupid, but it turned really good once we got to the heart of it. As a daughter of parents who dated throughout my life, it was good to see the mother in this movie take into consideration her daughter’s feelings. However, as a woman, I also can see why she felt justified in dating whom she wanted. PLUS, her daughter was old enough to be alone and didn’t need to participate.
However, it would have been extremely hard for me to have my mom date one of my bosses, especially if I didn’t see the side of my boss that she was seeing. I never wanted to see either of my parents get hurt.
Dating, in general, is hard and sometimes outright laughable. Adding kids to the mix, regardless of age, makes it even more difficult. A Family Affair did a great job portraying what it means to date as a mother and how it impacts our kids. It gave a solid reminder to kids that parents have the right to be happy, too.
A Family Affair movie was a funny, heartwarming story that was fun to watch. As stated, it started stupid and almost made me turn it off, but I’m glad I stuck with it.

I had the same reaction to the movie! I almost turned it off. I am VERY picky when it comes to acting. I analyze behaviors for a living so I can pretty easily pick up on bad acting and will instantly turn it off. But this movie made the cut and stayed on the TV while I cleaned the house. By half way through I stopped cleaning and started watching it in more detail.
You sound like me in that you start watching a movie as you’re getting other things done, and if it’s good enough you’ll stop what you’re doing and give it your full attention.
