Women become single parents for many reasons, and not all are open for discussion. It doesn’t matter whether you were married and now find yourself in a situation where you are a single pregnant woman and divorcing or if you had some fun one night and found yourself pregnant as a result.

You deserve support regardless of your situation, and whether you choose to be a parent alone is nobody else’s business. The only time it’s anyone’s business is when you reach out to organizations like the Embrace Grace – Pro Love organization to ask for help. Pregnancy is a scary enough time as it is without all of the judgment that surrounds it sometimes. So, instead of you feeling judged, we’ve got some tips that you need to light the way and feel excited about this new adventure you’re about to embark upon.

Find some support.

The website we mentioned is one of the best places to find support as a single parent. You lack a partner’s support, but that doesn’t mean you will lack support entirely. It may not sound like much, but pregnancy is tough enough as it is, so you need to make sure that you surround yourself with people who will be able to understand you and what you’re going through. A support network can consist of strangers online, family, and friends, but no matter what, gathering up that support as early as possible during your pregnancy is going to make you feel happier.

Accept help when it’s offered.

If you already have a great support system, then that’s fantastic. You just need to say yes to them when they support you. If your back is aching, accept offers from your friends to clean your house and cook your meals. There is no such thing as a super mum. And while you may be an independent woman, and we celebrate all of that, you don’t have to be so independent that you will just be in pain and by yourself.

Talk to experts.

If you’re worried about how you will cope with single parenting, speak to others who are already doing it. Other single parents will tell you the brutal side of single parenting, but they will also be able to tell you that they have no regrets and that being that parent for their child is one of them. Things that they’ve ever done, and no matter how hard it is, they know that their child is going to see their effort and love them forever for it. Ask for the life hacks and lean into the survival tips because you’re really going to need that support.

Talk to your boss.

When you’re single and pregnant, you need to get your boss on your side. Are you able to work from home? Can you get some flexibility so that when you feel nauseous, achy, and fatigued, you can have someone support the fact that you must lie down during the workday? Talk about the fact that you’re finding things tough and your situation, and ask for their flexibility and support so that you can continue to be a good worker. If your boss is not willing to work with you, it may be time to consider a change in employment now while you can with ease.

Do not be afraid to ask for things you need now or anticipate in the future. Be sure to look for solid childcare when the baby is born. Learn how to manage your time well and organize your home and life schedules to be prepared for the baby’s arrival.
