About When We Last Spoke Movie

When We Last Spoke Movie Review & Giveaway 1

In 1967, sisters Juliet (Darby Camp) and Evangeline (Chandler Head) are abandoned by their mother at their unsuspecting grandparents’ farm in the small southern town of Fireside. Stunned by their sudden arrival, tender-hearted Walt (Corbin Bernsen) and champion fiddler Ruby (Melissa Gilbert) graciously stand in for the missing parents and create one blue-ribbon recipe for a loving family. Fireside, home of radio Station KOFF, kept secrets, broken promises and to-die-for sundaes serves as the backdrop for this heartwarming story full of surprises. Top it all off with the unexpected appearance of Walt’s ailing mother–eccentric, Emily Dickinson-quoting Itasca (Cloris Leachman), and laughter and tears abound. Richly packed with plenty of quirky characters and hilarious escapades, When We Last Spoke is a timeless movie for all ages that digs in deep to things that matter most–family, friends, love, and forgiveness.

My Review

This was a sweet movie to watch. It’s a movie about forgiveness. In some ways, it hit home for me.

I gave my first daughter up for adoption to her stepmother and in many ways, I haven’t forgiven myself for making that choice completely. However, I know I made the right choice at the time for her. I feel she did have a better life with her father and stepmother than she would have had with me Yet, for many years I didn’t think I’d ever get to tell her that.

I praise God that I got the chance to do it, and we have somewhat of a relationship today. But we’ll never be super close, and I’m sure she feels some of what these sisters did in this movie over losing their mother. Yet, there are times that a parent must make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of the child even they never fully understand it.

I also dealt with a very harsh relationship with my mother growing up. I praise God that I got the chance to make amends with her during the last year of her life, but I almost missed that opportunity.

I feel this movie is a solid reminder that we need to learn to work out family differences in a more positive manner. Many things that we let destroy our family relationships are not things that are worth time lost with them. Oftentimes, we take our anger out on the wrong people and end up losing our connections with the very people who love us the most.

I recommend everyone to take the time to enjoy this movie. If you have Amazon Prime (which is worth every penny each month with the truckload of features you get), you can watch it for free.
