Through the years, I have run a successful blog, and that was when my youngest daughter was a baby, my youngest son was four years old, and my oldest son was eight. That was the most successful period of my blogging career for me. I believe it is because I felt more pressure to make it happen than what I feel now. I felt like I was doing what felt like the mission impossible. Yet, when I look back on that time of my life, I realize it was not some super miracle that I did it all. I realized I simply put-on blinders and dove into making it happen. As a result, I want to share with you what helped me with running a business with young kids undertow.

Tips for Running a Business with Young Kids

Running a Business with Young Kids 1

Get an Assistant

It is near impossible to run a business with young kids without some assistance of some kind. Whether you choose to have someone assist you with managing your home or someone to assist you in growing your business, it is worth the investment! For me, I got teenagers to come in and play with my kids and do light work throughout the home while I worked on my blog for a couple hours a week. When I could not afford to pay the teenagers, I recruited my young boys to help with doing small tasks on the blog. In turn they learned how to do online social media management, and that is a skill they can take with them wherever they go. (Now my youngest son is a big coder and loves it!)

Keep Up with Your Self-Care

Regardless as to what self-care look like for you, be sure that you make time for it. Your kids can learn from an early age to entertain themselves for one to two hours a day outside of their own nap times. I have learned that one of my best gifts I’ve given my kids and myself was to encourage them to be independent early on. It is not always going to be possible for you to entertain and keep your child(ren) engaged in activities.

Every woman has their own version of self-care. I personally love to read, write, watch tv, and ride my four-wheeler and take nature walks. I have included my kids in many of these activities, but they also know how valuable it is that I have time for just me. My husband has always enforced that I get two hours to do whatever I want uninterrupted at least every other day. For me that means so much!

If you’re not blessed with being married, you can get activities that will entertain your kids. Don’t feel guilty for your kids watching tv. IF you want ensure they are watching quality tv during those times you need a break you can always put on educational videos for the kids to watch.

Baby Carrier

I can’t say enough about using a baby carrier for my kids. It allowed me the opportunity to get housework done without listening to a whaling baby. She felt safe and close to me, but yet my hands were free to get things accomplished.

Use Your Phone Where Possible

Cell phones have come so far and have given me the freedom to get so much done while on the go. My notes folder is filled with tons of ideas for blog posts and so much more. I can manage my social media via my phone and keep my email inbox from getting overwhelming to look at. Since I have the iPhone Max Pro, I feel I can take quality pictures. (Of course, I still have a long way to go before I can say I’m even close to an expert at taking pictures.)

Barter Services

One thing that I have found that makes such a positive difference in running a business with young kids is finding fellow entrepreneurs who have skillsets opposites of yours that want to partner together. When you barter services with each other, you’re not having to spend time learning new skills, nor do you have added expenses, and you both gain something from the arrangement.

Take Advantage of Free Wi-Fi Kid’s Places

Right now, I’m working from a local trampoline place that gives me almost a full view of every part of their facility, free wi-fi, and an opportunity for my children to run, jump, scream, and play to their hearts content while I’m productively getting blog work done. I can keep a close eye on them and have peace of mind knowing they are happy as larks. I don’t have to feel an ounce of guilt while I work.

I have also taken my kids outside at home and watched them play as well. Investing in a solid laptop was a wise investment for me because it allowed me to take my work with me.

Batch Cook with Friends

One thing that will save you tons of time and be a fun adventure is to gather your friends and batch cook with friends. Cook as many freezer meals as you can, that way during the crazy heck week you can just pop meals in your slow cooker or oven and feed your family with ease. Six Sister’s shared over 50 freezer meal ideas for you all to make together.

Automate as Much as Possible

Another big tool in my arsenal to running a business with young kids is to automate as much as possible. Whether that is creating a set schedule and doing my utter best to stick with it or scheduling out social media posts. SocialOomph is a program that helps me to grow my social media accounts with ease. But don’t schedule things where you hope to gain immediate responses.

Don’t Stress

This one is most important. Don’t stress!!! When you’re putting your all into running a business with young kids and doing it with love, things do have a way of working out. When you provide your services with love for your patrons it shows in all that you do. I can guarantee you will be richly rewarded for your efforts. But DON’T quit. Don’t hold back. Anytime I’ve ever doubted myself or gotten stressed out because of my long to do lists, it’s only hurt my business. So, I say it again, DON’T STRESS!

Running a business with young kids is no small feat. Yet, it can be done. It just takes learning how to navigate the new waters so to speak. You can’t be afraid to ask for help from your spouse, your friends, and even older children if you have them. You’d be amazed how much they will be willing to help you succeed.
