Is Buying A Car Worth Even Worth It These Days?

As so many families out there have financial problems, it’s important to start looking at the biggest drains of our financial resources. When we start to chip away at the excessive expenditure in our day to day life, the car becomes one of the biggest costs. But is buying a car actually worth it these days? Or is it just another way for us to get into debt quickly?

The Financial Implications

A car is a major investment now. You can’t just go up to a second-hand dealership and buy something without there being a major caveat. By getting a second-hand vehicle, you are opening yourself up to numerous mechanical issues. As such, it becomes common sense for us to buy a car that’s got an extended warranty, is brand new, and therefore, comes with a hefty price tag. And while we can all be pretty fearful of those car salespeople that lay it on thick, it seems that if we want to escape with our emotions intact, we have to sign on the dotted line and just get something that’s vaguely brand new, has all the mod cons attached to it, but as such, leaves us out of pocket. These car salespeople and their various techniques have been around for decades, and it just seems to be something that gets worse. So, when we have no choice but to get a brand new car or something within our budget, we can feel like it’s such a major drain on our finances that it’s not even worth it.

Are We Too Reliant On A Car?

But, it would seem that we have to buy a car or is this the case? We buy a car because it’s convenient, it makes life easier. And generally speaking, it does. But, you have to think about where you live, is there an abundance of public transport? If so, surely you’re wasting your money on something that’s too expensive to run, and, in the grand scheme of things, if you were to use public transport, it only adds on a little bit of extra time to your day. We can be too reliant on a car to get us around, but a lot of people now don’t have the money to buy one anyway, as such, they’ve grown up relying on public transport, and these people haven’t even learned how to drive due to the astronomical costs. As such, they can find themselves in a unique situation, that if they have to get a car for some reason, but it opens them up to a new world. But with this supposed extra freedom you have when you get a car, you have a lot more money going to waste.

Isn’t Driving Just Too Dangerous These Days?

And for those people who are learning to drive now, they are in an environment where everybody is in a rush. The way it used to be, driving was a very enjoyable pastime and wasn’t too expensive. Now, those people that are just learning to drive, like our children, will find themselves having to save a lot of money just so they can have a car resting in the driveway. But with younger drivers comes a huge amount of danger. But, that’s not to exclusively say that it’s young people who are at fault when it comes to car accidents. The vast majority of personal injury lawyers who deal with car accidents will tell you that the biggest culprit on the roads now is distracted driving. We all have a temptation to use our phones while behind the wheel, and it’s amazing how many people decide to do it! As such, we can get behind the wheel and end up in near misses on a constant basis. At least in taking public transport, this eliminates the stress, and we can have a much more enjoyable life.

Is buying a car actually worth it these days? A lot of people can’t live without their car, but are these people saying this because they know nothing else? A lot of people can’t afford a car, so they rely on public transport, and it’s not adding so much extra time to their lives. The fact is that cars are becoming more expensive, but there are more drivers on the road, so there will be more accidents. And when we look at it from a financial perspective, if we end up in an accident, our insurance will go up, as well as the fact that we’ll have to pay out for additional fixes to the car. Is it worth it these days? The debate rages on.
