My Husband Next Door book has been getting a lot of attention, and I was curious to see what kind of ride it would take me on. With that in mind, here’s my honest take after diving in.

My Husband Next Door Book Review
I went into this book genuinely eager to dive in. I’m a big fan of Freida McFadden and Kiersten Modglin, so anything in that twisty, psychological lane usually grabs me right away. I’m also pretty sure I’ve read Slater’s work before, though I can’t say that with total certainty. With all the glowing early reviews, I expected a fast-paced, edge-of-my-seat story that would keep me flipping pages.
What I got instead felt surprisingly slow and drawn out. There were moments where the plot seemed to drift or jump in ways that didn’t always align with what was happening in the main storyline. Those shifts pulled me out of the flow, and I found myself rereading sections just to make sure I hadn’t missed something.
Another thing that affected my reading experience was how many breadcrumbs the author dropped along the way. Instead of building suspense, it made the twists feel predictable. By the time I reached the end, I already felt like I knew where the story was headed, and because of that, the final reveal didn’t land with the impact I expected.
Overall Thoughts:
While I can see why readers who enjoy slower-burn psychological stories might appreciate this one, it didn’t fully deliver what I look for in this genre. I wanted a tighter pace, cleaner transitions, and a payoff that felt earned. Instead, the ending left me a bit underwhelmed.
