SURPRISED BY OXFORD is a compelling love story intermingled with a story about coming to faith in God, absolute truth, and joy. The acting, production quality, and pacing all serve to paint a captivating, yet subtle, portrait of conversion and enlightenment to the truth of God.
SURPRISED BY OXFORD is a refreshing take on the faith-based genre as it focuses on story and character first and lets the apologetics and conversations regarding faith happen naturally, in a non-preachy way. However, the movie does contain adult conversations, drunkenness and some foul language. Whether accurate to the characters or not, the foul language sometimes feels out of place.
That said, SURPRISED BY OXFORD tells a compelling love story about a brilliant student coming to the true reality of God’s grace in her life and Him being the only source of real Joy.

My Review of Surprised by Oxford Movie
Surprised by Oxford is an interesting movie about a woman finding her faith. I liked many aspects of the movie. I like how it wasn’t overly throwing religion down a person’s throat. It just provided honest communication about what it means to have full faith in God.
I do believe my favorite scene was where this gentlemen mentioned he was saving himself for marriage. I wish more movies covered the importance of this decision. There are many other important thought provocating topics covered throughout this movie as well.
This movie is worth taking the time to watch. Even Plugged In gave it a solid review.

This movie sounds really good, Crystal! It’s always so nice to see movies centered in on God or how characters evolve in growing their faith. God has been so good to me. He has showed me time and time again that He is real and has made things happen that there is truly just no other explanation. I’m thankful for people who led me to the Lord from a young age, and I know God placed them in my life and has provided so many blessings – through the good and the bad, He is always there.

I love a good romance movie and this sounds like something I would enjoy. Plus, I presume it’s set in Oxford, which is a place I have fond memories of, so it would be nice to revisit the place, even if just on screen. Thanks for sharing, will learn more about this.
