To this day, my favorite Christmas gift has to be getting to sign ownership papers on Tripp the Christmas of 1993! Tripp was an 18-month-old Quarter horse when I got him. He was only green broken. I needed him just as much as he needed me!

During that point in my life, I was dealing with overcoming the sexual abuse that I had endured. We were in the midst of taking my offender to court. I had also changed schools and was not overly welcomed in my new school by my peers. I wasn’t welcomed because I was filled with anger and rage! I wasn’t ready to trust anyone!

Tripp was the gift that changed my life! He wasn’t willing to trust me without me putting in the time and energy to get him to do it. I can remember my mom stressing to me that I had to spend two hours a day rain or shine with him for the next 30 days. This was when we didn’t have the horses in our backyard. So that meant, after school, I had to ride my bike or walk the mile to where he was. I didn’t mind it one bit! He was worth the added trouble!

I spent many hours with Tripp and earned loads of riding patches from the American Quarter Horse Association to prove it! He was my best friend! What I didn’t realize while I was training him was that he was training me equally as much. He taught me about perseverance, trust and how it truly works, and how to love completely.

Due to my love of Tripp, I managed to stay out of trouble a lot more. I had something to occupy me during my teen years! If a guy wasn’t willing to accept the fact that I spent time riding him and training him then that guy quickly left my life.

I hope to pass on the gift of memories with my kids. I hope that in some way those memories will change their lives for the better! That’s why I’m eager to take Delbert and Zeva to go Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms this weekend!

About The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

Nutcracker and the Four Realms behind-the-scenes sneak peek!

All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston, and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale.  “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” releases in theaters on November 2. tweet
