Anybody Home?

Remember, a dog does not like being alone. Dogs are highly sociable animals, and if they are left alone for long periods, they can get rather depressed. You might want to check out a video online of what happens when a dog gets left by itself. The animal may spend the whole time crying, howling, and even looking for you. Dogs do not always understand that we’ve left and are coming back. It’s not really fair to leave a dog at home by itself for more than four hours a day. As such, you’ll need to think about whether your lifestyle matches the need of a dog.

If you or your partner is at home most days or works from home, that’s fine. Or, your kids might still be in school and be away for only a short time through the day. But you shouldn’t purchase a dog if you know that it’s going to be by itself a lot. This isn’t fair.

Be aware also that while there are kennels, a dog can impact your social life as well. You might need to start planning holidays around your new puppy.

Care Considerations

Your dog does need constant looking after, and there’s a lot that you’re going to be responsible for. Exercise, for instance, is a big consideration when you get a dog. However, the good news is that not all dogs need a massive amount of exercise. If you’re not very active, you can find a breed that is a little more laid back.

Your dog needs to be groomed regularly too. Some dogs need cleaning once a week. If you’re not going to do this, you need to find a suitable dog grooming service and make sure that you have the right plan in place for your dog’s care.

Don’t forget, a dog is like a baby. It will be completely dependent on you for everything.

Affordable?

Dogs can be very expensive because they need insurance, food, toys, and equipment. You can find yourself spending a couple hundred on your dog each month. Remember, bigger dogs will need more food and thus are more expensive. Some dogs also cost more to ensure medically because they are more prone to medical issues. If are worried about costs, do look at the cheapest dogs to insure and take care of.
