Reading through Ohio ~ Here We Come! from the By the Way Book Series has given my kids and I a great way to start a state history discussion as we read about my home state. I am originally from Ohio. There are many things I miss about living in Ohio, and I wish I could take my kids there to showcase those things to them. However, thanks to us being able to review the Ohio ~ Here We Come! the book I’ve been able to give them a small dose of the things I like about Ohio.
About Ohio ~ Here We Come!
Ohio ~ Here We Come! is one of the many books from the By the Way Book Series. Ohio ~ Here We Come! is about the trip that Alex and Lexi got to make to visit their Uncle Bud, Aunt Marie, and their cousins and all the things they got to do while they were there. They gained all kinds of new experiences.
The books in this series are designed for kids ages 5-12. They each are made up of 48 brilliantly colorful pages. Each book has loads of fun facts in them. They also come included with some Biblical world points of view. You can buy each book for $14.99.

Ohio ~ Here We Come! is a book that is jammed full all kinds of information. This book covers tidbits on animals, flowers, and even teaches kids how to behave in certain situations. I like how the author has placed scriptures that flow well within the books without being preachy.
One of my absolute favorite things to do in Ohio is to visit the Amish during maple sapping season. I had fun-sapping my own maple to make maple syrup. Then my mom and I would go home and make all kinds of special treats with the maple syrup we got. When we got to the part about the Amish in this book, I was able to share this story and many others with my kids. In fact, it made them understand why I make homemade maple candy around this time of year. It’s like my body is set to automatically crave maple products this time of year because it was a tradition for most of my childhood.
When we read about the cows, I got to tell them about my own experience of visiting one of my neighbors who raised cows. I even got to tell them about me getting my very first puppy from that man too. We even discussed how many amazing facts there were on cows alone.
This book even gives families suggestions of things to do to have their own in Ohio. This book even gives families suggestions of things to do to have their own adventures in Ohio. However, the author was smart to even include ideas of things for families to do in their own home state.
