Delbert has struggled with learning to read since he was two years old. I’ve tried a LONG list of programs with him. This list included programs that worked wonders with his older brother. However, nothing worked for him. Then we got the chance to review the Ultimate Phonics Reading Program from Spencer Learning thanks to being a part of the Homeschool Review Crew.
About Ultimate Phonics Reading Program
The Ultimate Phonics Reading Program is a downloadable software that comes complete with 262 lessons. The program breaks down all the phonics sounds and rules into small easy to remember lessons. It is designed to help any person struggling to read. They even designed it to help with teaching students who have dyslexia.
I suffer from dyslexia and have always felt that this may have been Delbert’s hold back. Yet, I couldn’t find a program that seemed to teach him without it being more confusing than my style of teaching. I value the fact that the Ultimate Phonics program is direct and uses a simple systematic approach to teaching. There are no rewards or even other distractions while he’s learning. At first I thought that this would be a hamper him using this program because he’s always loved learning while playing a game.
I quickly learned that the reason this program works is because there are NO distractions. You can see how it works a bit in my video. Unfortunately, you can’t see the words that great in the video, but I wanted you to be able to see Delbert using the program too. When I made it full screen it was even worse in the video.
As you can see from the video this program covers all the major aspects of teaching a child how to read. I jumped around with the lessons on the video to give you a bit of showcase of what it has to offer. However, each lesson doesn’t take more than 20 minutes at a time to finish. I choose to work with Delbert daily on it until he got through it. He went from being extremely below his reading level and depressed about reading to reading ABOVE grade level. Now he can’t get books in his hands fast enough. I’ve literally had to make MORE trips to the library now that he has found a love of reading on his own.
This is a program that doesn’t require being online. It is affordable because it’s only $69.95 for the complete package. That’s NOT an annual fee. If you decide to buy it between now and September 30, 2016, you can save $20 and get it for $49.95. If I haven’t sold you on this program yet, then go take advantage of their 10-day free trial.
