My kids are interested in learning Spanish so much that we’ve tried using several different products to help them learn it. When we were given the chance to review the Spanish Courses from Middlebury Interactive Languages   thanks to being  a member of  Homeschool Review Crew I willingly accepted the chance. We got the chance to review the Middle School Spanish 1 course.

This middle school Spanish 1 program is ideal for students in grades 6-8, but it is suitable for other ages too. This particular course covers four key areas of language study including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This program covers many of the common terms and phrases. It also teaches Spanish grammar patterns. It even teaches some culture practices too.

My Review

The middle school Spanish 1 program  covers a lot of information! This course is designed to be taken over a period of a year. The lessons aren’t overly long and if your child has taken any type of Spanish courses then they can get through the first semester with a bit of ease. Jimmy had a bit of trouble remembering some of the things he’s learned from the other courses we’ve used in the past. It was a solid refresher for him. Plus, it challenged him.

At first, Jimmy wasn’t enthused with the idea of taking this course because it made him think too much. However, after I got on board with helping him he grew to appreciate this course.

We haven’t gotten too far into the lessons due to loads of personal reasons lately. I do feel confident though that we will go back to finish out this course because I do feel that my kids learning a foreign language is quite important. Spanish is my first pick primarily because I took it in high school with an amazing teacher.

One of the things I like about this course is even if you haven’t been taught Spanish at all, you could still learn some of the terms. However, it would require a bit more effort.

Semester 1 Overview

As you can see from the image above the first semester covers many of the basics that you can find in other Spanish courses in their beginner sections. The one difference about this program is that it reviews it through images, having your students record themselves, and through tests. It also teaches the Spanish grammar methods too.

Semester 2 Overview

Semester 2 to me covers more of the advanced topics that help a student to interact with those who speak Spanish fluently. I think this level would help my children be able to easily order Mexican food with a bit more ease. I can remember when I was learning Spanish being proud of being able to do that without too many hiccups. Granted, the native tongue sounds a bit differently than how we’re typically taught it, but at least I could carry on a conversation. I can’t wait to be able to see my kids do that too.

Overall, I feel that this program is worth investing in for your students.  Let’s not forget you will have a proven written track record to showcase their accomplishments. This program is available for $119 without teachers support, but with teacher’s support, it is $294 for ONE semester.  To get both semesters, the cost is $238 without teacher’s support, but with teacher’s support, it is $588. It does seem pricey when there are many other options available for you to use, but the way this course flows makes it worth the cost.
