I do my utter best to make sure that my kids gain as many skill sets in the STEM education realm as I can. I know that their future is based around them having a strong understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Lucky for them, these are my strong subject matters. Plus, it is something I’ve always had an interest in learning too. Part of the fun for them is having me learn it with them. In fact, I wish we had a Snapology location close to home because it looks like an awesome place for kids to learn STEM education.
Why is STEM the future?
All of my kids would rather learn with hands-on activities rather than having to sit and listen to a lecture any day of the week. We are surrounded by people constantly looking for another way that some form of technology can keep us from having to do something. There is literally a robot for almost every domestic task we can think of now.
For as much as I’d love to have the extra time to play rather than cleaning a cat’s litter box (if we still owned a cat) or mowing the grass, I still realize that there has to be a human who knows how to fix that robot when it malfunctions. I want my kids to be prepared to be that person who can fix the robots or make them more advanced.
Resources for STEM Education
STEM education is actually fun to do with the kids. Below are some ideas to use with your kids.
Teachers Pay Teachers has many awesome resources at reasonable prices.
Here is a neat roundup of 40 STEM Activities For Kids from Playdough to Plato.
Learn more about the Know Yourself Adventures Series which are monthly STEM-Based Learning Kits.
You can also do a search on Pinterest for loads of STEM resources.
Snapology For STEM Learning
I’m jealous of the fact that other places have the advantage of taking their kids to Snapology. Snapology is a place that was created as a place for kids to attend classes and camps to learn science, technology, engineering, mathematics, art and literacy concepts in a hands-on manner. I have considered their franchise opportunity because I feel it would be a wise investment. My kids would be there as much as they could humanly make it possible.
Snapology offers year-round programs for hands-on academic enrichment, including:
- competition teams
- themed programs
- preschool programs
