Chemisty was one of my favorite subjects when I was going to school. As a result, I couldn’t wait until Jimmy was introduced to it in school. He just got into the basics of it in school. We got the chance to review Chemistry 101 at the exact right time. My son has been using Chemistry 101 from The 101 Series as a supplement to her regular high school science program. The 101 Series also includes Physics 101 or Biology 101.
About Chemistry 101
Chemistry 101 is a 4 DVD set that goes into the history and basics of Chemistry. It contains 19 lessons that range from 20-45 minutes long. It also comes complete with guidebook that has quizzes and a one-year highschool course booklet.
This program was designed by Wes Olson a Multnomah Bible College graduate. Wes is your students guide as he goes through the history and terms of the periodic table. Although this is designed for students ages 15 and up, my twelve-year-old (now 13), handled this course with ease.
Chemistry 101 is a program that makes Chemistry interesting and engaging. The videos are just the right amount of length. Wes does a remarkable job of making sure to actively engage the viewer throughout the shows. A lot of information is covered in these 4 DVDs.
The Guidebook is easily broken down into segments based on the lessons. The Guidebook comes complete with overviews of the films, quizzes, and discussion questions. Jimmy handled passing almost all of the quizzes with an 80 or above average. There was only two quizzes that he struggled with, and to be honest, those were finer details about the different elements that even I have a hard time remembering.
Wes made the Periodic Table less daunting to conquer. The videos made it to where we were able to easily remember various aspects of it. They had excellent visuals and graphics throughout each video.
I actually had a hard time keeping this program at my house because my mother-in-law wanted it for my 16-year-old niece that she homeschools. My niece got this program, and actually enjoyed it too. She said it was a lot easier program to follow than the other programs they were using.
If you’re looking for a Chemistry program to teach your children the basics this is definitely one to consider using!
You can buy the Chemistry 101 curriculum for only $69.95. The 101 Store also offers Physics 101 and Biology 101 too, and if they are even half as good as the Chemistry 101 series then you’ll definitely want to buy all three for $168.95. What I really love is that all The 101 Series Science courses include a Course Accreditation Program booklet and is available in a PDF format for easy printout.
